Collection Developments

This library has a unique collection of 80,142 documents of various nature. These wonderful rare resources are ranging from documents on languages and literature of Sanskrit, Urdu, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and especially a very rare collection pertaining to the Tamil language and literature. It is proud to state that the readers for these collections are global. It is also to state that rare documents are contributed by the icons of Tamil language and literature to this library. And it is one of the best vernacular languages and literature library in the Indian context as well as globally.


Resource Cell for Competitive Examinations

In addition to the language and literature collections, the library has also open window for the readers who are preparing for competitive examinations conducted by various organizations. The library has more number of competitive examination books especially for Public Service commission, NET, SLET and other types of examinations and also through the open access link the user can access more number of such books.


Service for differently abled Library user

This library has specialized collection for visually impaired library users. All the books are in the form of Braille, in which the characters are represented by arrangements of raised points. As such, a reader can read the resources in a comfortable manner in the library. A conducive reading environment has been provided so as to maximum utilization of these resources by the type of users.





Physical Infrastructure and conducive reading environment of the library

The ground floor of the library is fully air-conditioned with adequate no of chairs and reading tables. And 14 Nos of user terminals are installed in the Online Information Zone (OLIZ) of the library to facilitate the user to access world of e-resources. However, the reference staff of the library is well trained in the context of e-resources access and delivery who has been giving training on information literacy skills development to the readers so as to use the maximum extend of e-resources related to their academic and research pursuits. In the ground floor of the library photocopying services are provided. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the library controlled by a server. Thus, this conducive reading environment of the library attract more no of readers not only from the campus departments as well as the readers from other affiliated colleges of the university.
