THE HISTORY
The Department of Management Studies is one of the India's oldest and the most prestigious B-schools established as early as 1955.
The objectives with which this institute was conceived have not been abandoned; but new ones have sprung up over time. Train practicing managers, innovating and professionalising management in priority sectors and the thought towards globalization have been added. These have profoundly changed the characters of DOMS from a B-school to a multi-dimensional institute of management to alter the quality of life itself through excellent management.
The purpose of DOMS has been to influence the way organizations are managed in the country.
The institute consequently has developed strong linkages with the practicing world and overtime its faculty members have acquired deep understanding of the issues of major concern for organizations. The education at DOMS provides conceptual knowledge to students, enhancing their capacity to resolve concrete problems and inculcate values and attitudes so that they can become effective organizational leaders.
From its inceptions DOMS has offered unsurpassed quality in its academic programs. In addition to its flagship 'Master of Business Administration', DOMS also offers doctorate course to foster research.
We aim to achieve an ideal mix of permanent and visiting faculty that will give the students the benefit of industry exposure as well as a strong research base. The origins and distinctive research of our faculty members ensure that our programs offer content that is state-of-the-art and global in nature.
We believe that research and taught leadership will only make DOMS truly distinctive. The department has about 30 students, pursuing doctoral programs in various contemporary areas of management. The involvement of the research scholars in deciding the syllabus adds weight age to it.
