The National Service Scheme is a value based youth programme aimed at developing the personality of our educated youth by involving them in community development during their leisure hours. This scheme was introduced in the University of Madras as early as 1969.
The National Service Scheme had a voluntary strength of 18,300 during 2002-2003 which was spread over in 105 colleges in the University of Madras.
