Achievements

  • Dr.Ramamurthy has started his academic career as a lecturer in the department of Inorganic chemistry in 1987 and contributed significantly in the field of Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Photosciences not only through his scientific publications but also dedicating himself to establish the National Centre for Ultrafast Processes with state of art facilitites, which is unique of its kind among University researchers in our country. His major areas of research interest are excited state electron transfer and photochemistry of a new family of laser dyes (NADH model compounds), and their reactions with electron donors and acceptors and excited state solvation dynamics of intramolecular charge transfer(ICT) state in homogenous and micro-heterogeneous environments and photonic nanomaterials.  
  • Dr.Ramamurthy has more than 95 research publications in high impact factor international and national journals to his credit. His work has been cited by several researchers world-wide. He has been awarded University Grants Commission Career Award in 1993 and Bronze Medal in 2002 by Chemical Research Society of India. He has been elected as fellow of National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad. He is a member of many professional bodies like, Chemical Research Society of India, Indian Society for Radiation and Photochemical Sciences and Indian Photobiology Society. He has delivered scientific talks in international and national conferences like Asian Photochemistry Conference
  • He has completed 11 research projects with financial support from different funding agencies like DST Young Scientist, DST-IRHPA, CSIR, UGC, DAE,ISRO,DST-SERC which has mobilized research grants to the tune of Rs.535 lakhs to the University of Madras. Currently, he has one ongoing projects from DST-EU with the financial sanction to the tune of Rs.150 lakhs. The research grants mobilized has facilitated him to setup the excellent state-of-art facilities at National Centre for Ultrafast Processes for the Ultrafast Research. To his credit he has produced 11 Ph.D students and 9 Ph.D students are currently working. He has initiated the M.Sc. teaching programme in a multidisciplinary area ?Photonics and Biophotonics? with the financial support from University Grants Commission under Innovative Research and Teaching Programme.
